Biography

Alexei Ashikhmin (M'00–SM'08) received the Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering from the Institute of Information Transmission Problems, Russian Academy of Science, Moscow, in 1994.
He is with the Mathematics of Networks and Communications Research Department, Bell Laboratories, Alcatel-Lucent, Murray Hill, NJ. In 1995 and 1996, he was with the Mathematics and Computer Science Department, Delft University of Technology, The Netherlands. From 1997 to 1999, he was a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Modeling, Algorithms, and Informatics Group of Los Alamos National Laboratory. Since 1999, he has been with Bell Laboratories. His research interests include communications theory, the theory of error correcting codes, and classical and quantum information theory.
Dr. Ashikhmin served as an Associate Editor for the IEEE Transactions on Information Theory from 2003 to 2006. He is a corecipient of the Bell Labs President's Gold Award in 2003 and the IEEE Communications Society 2005 Stephen O. Rice Prize paper award.
