Biography

Paolo Arena (S'93–M'97–SM'01) received the degree in electronic engineering and the Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering from the University of Catania, Catania, Italy, in 1990 and in 1994, respectively.
He is currently Associate Professor of system theory, biorobotics and bioengineering. He is a coauthor of more that 130 technical papers, five books, and several industrial patents. His research interests include adaptive and learning systems, neural networks and optimization algorithms, cellular neural networks, and collective behaviors in living and artificial neural systems for locomotion control.
Dr. Arena is Chair Elect of the Chapter of the Circuits and Systems Society, Central and South Italy, and served as an Associate Editor of the IEEE Transactions on Circuits and Systems, Part I from 2002 to 2003.
