Biography
Orhan Arıkan (Member, IEEE) was born in Manisa, Turkey, in 1964. He received the B.Sc. degree in electrical and electronics engineering from Middle East Technical University, Ankara, Turkey, in 1986, and the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in electrical and computer engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign, in 1988 and 1990, respectively. Following his graduate studies, he was employed as a Research Scientist at Schlumberger-Doll Research Center, Ridgefield, CT, USA. In 1993, he joined the Electrical and Electronics Engineering Department, Bilkent University, Ankara, Turkey. Since 2006, he has been a Full Professor at Bilkent University. He served as the Chairperson for the Department from 2011 to 2019. He is currently the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Bilkent University. His current research interests include semantic signal processing, time–frequency analysis, and remote sensing. From 1991 to 2001, he served as the Chairperson for the Turkey Section of IEEE.
