Biography

Pablo Castells received the Ph.D. degree in computer science in 1994 from the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (UAM), Madrid, Spain, with a thesis on automated theorem proving.
He has been an Associate Professor at UAM since 1999, where he currently leads the Networked Semantics Team. In 1994–1995, he was a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the University of Southern California, Los Angeles. More recently, he has led or participated in several national and international projects in the areas of the semantic Web and knowledge-based systems, in application domains such as news, finance, and healthcare. His current research focuses on information retrieval, semantic-based technologies, personalization, and recommender systems. He has published 24 articles in journals and book chapters and 28 in international conferences and workshops.
Dr. Castells has been a Reviewer in IEEE Intelligent Systems, and IEEE Transactions on Circuits and Systems for Video Technology, and Program Committee member in over 15 international conferences. He is an ACM member, and served in the Steering Board of the Spanish HCI Association from 1999 to 2004.
