Review of three types of oscillations between wind farms and other power system components

This paper reviews three types of oscillations between wind farms and other power system components including a series-compensated line, a Voltage-Sourced-Converter based High Voltage DC Transmission (VSC-HVDC) system and other devices in the system. The methods for analysing the oscillations, the main impact factors on the oscillations, the mitigation methods and the potential causes of a novel oscillation are discussed. The paper shows that with proper additional controller or control by other devices, the oscillations between wind farms and other power system components can be suppressed to ensure normal operation of the power system.
