Symmetrical VSC monopole scheme alternative grounding circuit arrangements

VSC symmetrical monopole grounding circuit with a focus on necessity of the grounding, overview of the existing topologies and a proposal of alternative grounding circuits is discussed in this paper. The key design concepts, advantages and challenges associated with the proposed alternative configurations are evaluated. The analysis includes comparison of the proposed solutions with the grounding methodologies implemented in practical applications.
